Building Bridges: Abilene’s Integration Challenge

The main problem of the Abilene refugee community in the United States is learning and speaking English because there are church members and legal immigrants resettled with their families in the United States for whom English is their second language. The City of Abilene in Texas has more than 2,000 family refugees from Asia and Africa. Those refugees and other newcomers’ primary need is their integration into the community. Refugees traumatized and chased from their properties by the war and resettled into the United States require integration into American society as a priority for restoring hope in their lives.

Supplementary Endeavors

Life Restoration Center will assist traumatized people by war with counseling to gain hope to live again with the new culture and organize seminars of respective leaders of communities to offer emergency services, precisely older adults, and unaccompanied children under 21 years. Life Restoration Center proposes to build a multi-purpose center as the most excellent solution to meet the needs of resettled refugees.

Refugee church leaders and other intellectual resident refugees volunteer to participate in education to solve the literacy problem of adult refugees and communicate with the supervisors at work, shopping at the market, or explain themselves at the hospital. Life Restoration Center provides tuition on evening weekdays, an after-school program for elementary, middle, and high school students monitored by a supervisor. The program enables the participants to overcome the language barrier.

Life Restoration Center fundraises to support the underserved African community where our Christian Restoration Center church partners are in the villages. The aim is to eradicate poverty by supporting entrepreneurship. Building schools and hospitals and providing clean water are prioritized over other activities for living a good life. The charity organization empowers pastors of the Christian Restoration church and other spiritual leaders to educate people to love each other and God supremely.

Justification

There is a high necessity for Life Restoration Center to meet the community’s needs. People resettled in the United States have indefinite visas (1-94), get a permanent resident (Green card) after one year, pass the naturalization test after five years, and become citizens. Education of these new citizens is necessary for the country’s development because they come to live with their families in the United States. More than 90% of refugees come from no English-speaking countries and have difficulties speaking English. Therefore, there is a need to teach refugees about communication in English.

The Life Restoration Center will meet the indispensable momentous events in life. Refugees must speak English at work, school, hospital, market, and everywhere in the United States. They must celebrate their ceremonies in their respective culture. For example, some cultures take two days at the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) for the wedding ceremony. Only 30% of the local building owners can give them their buildings for use.

The Life Restoration Center outreach in Africa will focus on educating children in primary and secondary schools free of charge for low-income families and refugees not living in refugee camps. Life Restoration, in collaboration with the local authority and church leaders of Christian Restoration church or other partner churches in the community, will create jobs by assisting low-income parents to organize cooperatives that interest their family’s development. Building clinics and hospitals in a marginalized poor community is our priority for a good life.

Strategy of raising the budget

The directors of Life Restoration Center began the charity organization by donating their time and money to purchase the land to build the headquarters office in Abilene, Texas. The Organization partners with the Christian Restoration church in Kenya in building seven churches in the West province of Kenya, and two churches are under construction at the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya. Kakuma is one of the five world’s largest refugee camps that need humanitarian assistance in different areas of life. Through conferences and seminars of the leaders, we encourage church members to work together as a community to elevate the level of life.

Our operation zone is in Kakuma refugee camp, Turkana County, and Kalobeyei Integrated Settlement in Northwestern Kenya. Life Restoration intends to expand its operations in the oldest Nakivale refugee camp in Isingiro District, Southern Uganda. The Organization begins by mobilizing people with the exact needs for one solution. Since the Organization aims to improve refugees living in the refugee camp and the third country of resettlement, more spiritual education is needed. Raising money comes from the vision bearer and directors of Life Restoration Center and other good Samaritans willing to promote the well-being of refugees, impoverished people, and the support of God’s servants. You can donate through the website or email or call our contact phone number for more explanation.

Measurement

The Multi-Purpose Center’s necessity of Life Restoration Center is that refugees are suffering and victims in their workplace due to a lack of communication with their supervisor, resulting in job termination. Car accidents in the City of Abilene occur because of a lack of knowledge of road signs and driving safety rules. Upon completing the Center and implementing the vision and objectives, the Center will achieve the goal of creating new hope in life through the services offered at the Center.

The Life Restoration Center will continue its life-changing mission for Abilene’s refugee population. When the funds are available, the Center expects to reinforce the time estimated for constructing the Multi-Purpose Center. The refugee population will participate actively in implementing the objectives by visiting the Center in a high ratio to improve their lives.

Human Resources and Equipment

The Center will have volunteers from the African and Asian refugee communities and native citizens. There will also be permanent staff experts in the education of English and other subjects taught in school. Life Restoration Center will cope with the head chair of social work and ministry and computer science at Hardin Simmons University and Abilene Christian University. These Universities will send their students for internships in the work practice of their degrees to help resolve different family issues and other personal needs for the new refugees’ hopeful life of resettled families. The Center will also need computers, chairs and tables, food for after-school students, and at least two minivans for transportation.
